One of Francis's best. Full of racing action, power-hungry aristocracy, and altogether believable characters.

simply excellent. another example of the protagonist as a regular person rising to meet progressively more rigorous challenges through the exercise of character and intelligence. Francis breathes life vividly into the locales and characters. like a steeplechase there are no lulls in the pace of the story lines. character and goodness struggle but triumph! gives one faith in mankind.
